In 2019, Wangwang, an eight-year-old German shepherd, officially retired from her duties with the police department. Despite stepping away from active service, she still holds memories of her time on the job, including the bond she shared with her handler. Wangwang had been an integral part of the Xichuan Police team in Henan province, where she utilized her sharp sense of smell as a sniffer dog at various security checkpoints. This special bond between Wangwang and her handler is still cherished by both, even in retirement.
When Wangwang retired, she found a new loving home, but it also meant parting ways with her handler. The Xichuan Police department shared that while police dogs are well taken care of at the training center, retired dogs need more attention and time for play and exercise that officers can’t always provide.
When Wangwang finally saw her long-lost companion again, the moment was so emotional that the furry pup couldn’t help but shed tears of joy. The heartwarming reunion was captured and shared by Xichuan Police on Douyin, a popular Chinese social media app similar to TikTok. In the video, Wangwang joyfully rushed to her old buddy and happily reveled in some nice belly rubs. As she enjoyed the affectionate attention, tears glistened in her eyes, depicting a touching scene of pure happiness and love.
One person noted that the dog seemed emotional, expressing that dogs truly are faithful friends and should be treated with care. The post mentioned that Wangwang’s fur was starting to turn white, but she was well-nourished and plump. Another reader pointed out how much Wangwang longed for her handler, noting that her belly-up greetings were a clear indication of her feelings.
